Selena Gomez along with the Weeknd (Abel Tesfaye) haven’t exactly been mum about their current relationship. Yes, neither of them have spoken much, publicly, about their union; however, they’ve certainly acknowledged it via photographs, Snapchat videos, and concert swag. Whenever you make your red-carpet debut at the Met Gala, you’re not really requesting level of privacy, am I right?
Which is intentional. In a new interview with Ryan Seacrest, Gomez points out why she isn’t attempting to hide her status with all the Weeknd.
“It’s really hard when I would want to invest so much time covering things,” the singer said. “It’s too much pressure, and I believe everyone gets over everything eventually. I just desire to be happy. In the event that’s me just being myself, then I don’t really caution.”
For clarification, Seacrest noted, “Obviously she’s discussing The Weeknd,” and Gomez confirmed–with hook correction. “Abel… that’s so unusual.” (LOL, imagine Gomez dialling Tesfaye “The Weeknd.” Example: “Let’s go to T.G.I. Fridays, Weeknd!”)
Her reasoning makes total sense, if you believe about any of it. Sure, Gomez and The Weeknd being so public may not seem to be like the best move for discretion at first, but it eradicates any mystery bordering their marriage. It ends the speculation, so any photography or video recording we see of these canoodling isn’t shocking or specifically newsworthy. They’re dating–of course they’re going to kiss. Finally, this takes the energy from tabloids and puts it back Gomez’s hands.
Interestingly, authenticity reaches the primary of SelGo’s new image. From her stripped-down new solo “Bad Liar” to her recent string of refreshingly forthcoming radio interviews, Gomez is performed letting other folks control her narrative–and that’s empowering as hell.
