Among TV’s biggest manufacturers is dealing with one of entertainment’s great villains.
Netflix has bought 18 shows of Ratched, an origins report for the infamous nurse from the Oscar-winning One Flew Over’s the Cuckoo’s Nest. Ryan Murphy (North american Horror Story, American Crime Account, Feud) will produce and Sarah Paulson, a frequent Murphy collaborator, will play Nurse Ratched.
Another big name, Michael Douglas, will provide as executive company along with Murphy. Douglas was a designer of the 1975 film, which won the best picture Oscar. The film was modified from Ken Kesey’s 1962 book, which followed people at an Oregon psychiatric hospital.
Louise Fletcher, who enjoyed Nurse Ratched, and Jack port Nicholson, who performed psychiatric patient R.P. McMurphy, acquired acting Oscars for their portrayals in the film.
Murphy will guide the first bout of the series, which originates from writing newcomer Evan Romansky, a recently available film university graduate. Development is planned to start next year. It represents the first streaming series for Murphy, whose shows are usually seen on FX or Fox.
The series, whose episodes will be split into two seasons, begins in 1947 and follow the nurse as she changes into a monstrous figure in the years before her encounter with McMurphy.
Paulson, who received an Emmy on her behalf portrayal of Marcia Clark in 2016’s THE FOLKS v. O.J. Simpson: North american Crime Story, is now starring in Murphy’s latest edition of the AHS anthology, Cult, which premiered this week on FX.
She actually is also slated to star within an approaching season of Criminal offenses Account, also an anthology, that will deal with the results of Hurricane Katrina
