Kate Beckinsale is the latest celebrity to accuse Harvey Weinstein of intimate harassment. On Thursday night, the Underworld celebrity claimed her profession endured after rejecting the movie mogul’s intimate developments starting at the age of 17.
In a affirmation released to her Instagram, Beckinsale, 44, detailed her alleged experiences with the developer, saying he showed up to a gathering in a bathrobe and offered her alcoholic beverages when she was only a teenager.
“I used to be called to meet Harvey Weinstein at the Savoy Hotel after i was 17. I assumed it would be in a conference room which was very common. AFTER I arrived, reception explained to visit his room . He exposed the entranceway in his bathrobe,” she had written. “I had been extremely naive and young and it didn’t cross my brain that this aged ,unattractive man would expect me to own any sexual affinity for him. After declining alcoholic beverages and announcing i had school each day I still left ,uneasy but unscathed.”
Beckinsale cases that years later, Weinstein asked the celebrity if anything possessed happened between the two of these throughout their first meeting.
“I recognized he couldn’t remember if he had assaulted me or not,” she wrote.
Over the years, Beckinsale said she turned down his sexual advances numerous times — which she alleges often resulted in angry outbursts.
“I said no to him professionally many times over the years-some which were left with him screaming at me dialling me a c– and making hazards, a few of which made him laughingly inform people oh ‘Kate lives to state no if you ask me,’ ” she recalled.
Beckinsale said her alleged activities with Weinstein “undoubtedly harmed” her career.
“It talks to the status quo in this business that I was aware that taking a stand for myself and saying no to things,” she published. “While it did let me feel uncompromised in myself, definitely harmed my career and was never something I experienced backed by anyone apart from my children.”
The actress praised the women who’ve spoken out about Weinstein’s alleged intimate misconduct. She said in speaking out, she hope to inspire more women to come onward.
“For every moment in time like this there were thousands in which a vulnerable person has confided outrageous unprofessional tendencies and found they have no recourse, due with an atmosphere of fear that it appears everyone has been surviving in,” she said.
Beckinsale also recalled an example when a male friend warned a lady celebrity about Weinstein — and in exchange, was allegedly suspended from dealing with the producer.
“I had fashioned a male friend who, based on my experience,warned a celebrity who said she was going to evening meal with Harvey to be cautious. He received a phone call the next day saying he’d never work in another Miramax film.”
She concluded: “Let’s stop allowing our young women to be intimate cannon fodder,and let’s remember that Harvey can be an emblem of something that is sick,and that people have work to do.”
Beckinsale joins a chorus of women who have detailed similar accounts with the movie executive, including Ashley Judd, Angelina Jolie, Gwyneth Paltrow and Cara Delevingne.
In a bombshell New York Times report last week, eight women spoke out against Weinstein, accusing him of inappropriate behavior. The paper also reported that Weinstein reached private settlements with eight women, including celebrity Rose McGowan.
Following the first record, Weinstein said in a assertion that he was working with therapists and planned to “package with this problem head-on.” He has since been fired from his powerhouse studio room, The Weinstein Company, and his better half, Marchesa custom Georgina Chapman, has declared she’s going out of him.
“My heart and soul breaks for all the women who have suffered huge pain because of these unforgivable actions. I have chosen to leave my husband. Caring for my small children is my first concern and I ask the media for privacy at the moment,” Chapman says in a declaration to PEOPLE.
On Thursday, Paltrow and Jolie added their own accounts of alleged mistreatment. Paltrow informed the NYT that Weinstein sexually harassed her in a hotel room when she was 22. The encounter allegedly concluded with Weinstein positioning his hands on her and recommending a massage. Jolie also advised the wall plug that she got a “bad experience” with Weinstein in a hotel room through the release of Participating in by Center in the later ’90s.
Also on Wednesday, the The New Yorker exposed — among 13 different women’s accounts of alleged erotic harassment, assault or rape — that the mogul allegedly forcibly performed dental intimacy on Italian actress Asia Argento two decades ago.
