Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Olsen attend YAGP Stars of Today Meet The Stars of Tomorrow 2018 Gala on April 19, 2018 in New York City
Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen are among the most recognisable names in the world, but these days you’re more likely to see pictures of them carefully dodging paparazzi than skillfully posing on the red carpet.
The fashion designers (31) made a rare public appearance in New York City on Thursday night in support of a youth dance competition which awards scholarships to dance schools around the world. The pair are regular supporters of the cause and are almost guaranteed to attend the event each year, one of two events they visit annually, in addition to the Met Gala.

Both were unsurprisingly clad in designs from The Row, their fashion brand, sticking to their signature overstated boho style.
Meanwhile, their younger sister Elizabeth Olsen is a rising star to be reckoned with – she not only stars as Scarlet Witch in Marvel’s Avengers franchise (she’s currently promoting Avengers: Infinity War) but balances out her CV with starring roles in indie films in Wind River and Netflix’s latest arrival, Kodachrome.
She said her sisters, who were child superstars thanks to their part in ’90s sitcom Full House, taught her how to expertly navigate fame while also keeping a private life.
“There are always ways you can be private – my sisters are intimately private and I respect that. They showed me that you can be private, but also accessible to journalists, for those reasons,” she told Harper’s Bazaar.

“It’s helpful that I learnt my value system from them.”
She said her sisters guided her in not getting sucked into celebrity culture, instead treating acting exactly as it is, a job.
“It was always very clear that acting was a job; I never had this twinkly fantasy of people taking photographs of me. It was a job and work and there are different ways of drawing attention to yourself that you don’t want,” she explained.
