Ben Affleck will Comic-Con this weekend to market Warner Bros.’ getting close to Justice Group movie, assemble for a Nov. 17 release. But how many more times is he more likely to placed on the Batsuit? Probably not many, if again.

Yes, Warners’ film studio room room key Toby Emmerich explains to The Hollywood Reporter, “Ben is our Batman. We love him as Batman. You want to keep him in the cowl as long as we can.” And Matt Reeves, who’ll steer the studio’s still-undated (and unwritten) The Batman, has said that he solutions to keep Affleck in the role. But a source with knowledge of the problem says that the studio room is focusing on ideas to usher out Affleck’s Batman — gracefully, managing the change in a few shape or form in one of the getting close to DC films.

Exactly when and exactly how that might happen has yet to be influenced, but it might be wise to gamble against Affleck starring inside the Batman. He has recently stepped from directing the film and Reeves is shedding the script that Affleck wrote with D.C. Entertainment’s Geoff Johns.

Reeves offers recognized that he has a Batman trilogy moving around in his brain, and given his success making two-thirds of any trilogy out of Dawn of the planet earth of the Apes and Warfare for the Planet of the Apes, it appears good to foresee that Warners will require him to understand his vision.

Furthermore, Affleck will switch 45 in August, so he’d be pressing 50 before The Batman happens in theaters. If Reeves makes a trilogy, Affleck would maintain his mid-50s at best by the time that’s done. Maybe Tom Sail could yank that off, but Affleck’s body hasn’t exactly been a temple.

Despite the fact that male superstars have been able to extend their action-film relevance further in an age when there are fewer bankable young personalities (Robert Downey Jr. is 52 and heading strong as Hair straightening iron Man), studios prefer the fresh-faced — look what took place with Spider-Man, effectively rebooted with 21-year-old Tom Holland. (Affleck also just fell from the Netflix task Triple Frontier, and it’s really not yet established what his next movie will be. His repetitions lowered to comment.)

Warners could hypothetically create dual Batmen, keeping Affleck in the role for a well planned Justice Category follow-up, while allowing Reeves cast his movie with some other superstar. But that seldom seems likely. The first Justice Category already gets to an inflection point: Director Zack Snyder has stepped away in mid-production and his successor, Joss Whedon, is reported to be doing thorough reshoots. (Understand that Justice Little league member Superman is played out by Henry Cavill, 34, The Flash is Ezra Miller, 24, Aquaman is Jason Momoa, 37, and Question Feminine is 32-year-old Gal Gadot.) Another Justice Little league movie would be years later on. THR reported Thursday night time that Shazam!, with a yet-to-be-cast subject star, would be the next DC movie to fully capture.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar: 3 ways to Build a Better Dark Superhero
Certainly, Batman transitions have occurred before. Starting in 1989, Warners has made movies with Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer, George Clooney, Christian Bale and Affleck. Being a source with ties to the situation observes, there is certainly precedent in the Batman comics for Bruce Wayne handing from the mantle to others, and even for two different Batmen unscrambling the roadways of Gotham concurrently.

The landmark 1993 Knightfall story left Wayne temporarily paralyzed, leading him to appoint a vigilante called Azrael as his Batman solution. When Azrael gone rogue, Wayne arrived of retirement to avoid him and then quickly retired once again, appointing Dick Grayson (AKA Robin) as the new Batman. That was so successful that whenever Wayne was assumed deceased in ’09 2009, Grayson possessed considered on the cowl for another time. (Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises even gone this path, with Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s John Blake getting the keys to the Batcave after Bale’s Bruce Wayne was presumed inactive.)

Within the comics, Grayson continued to be on as Batman even though Wayne went back to will be the Deep Knight, with both different Batmen splitting looks between the various comic catalogs. Bruce Wayne acquired used Batman Inc. and Batman and Robin, while Grayson’s testimonies ran in Batman and Detective Comics. Grayson also appeared regular in the Justice League of America series during this time period, probably making him the greater high-profile of both characters.

Warner Bros. could even select the Batman Beyond treatment. The fan-favorite animated series (1999-2001) observed an elderly Bruce Wayne teach a guy called Terry McGinnis as his apprentice, with Wayne instructing him to dominate the role as Batman. Naturally, there’s a downside to the passing-the-torch situations: It’s hard to presume buffs or Reeves being worked up about following a person who is not Bruce Wayne for a Batman trilogy
