Actor-singer Ali Zafar in his defamation suit said that Meesha Shafi’s cases of erotic harassment have brought on “tremendous harm” to his “reputation, goodwill, livelihood” through “false, slanderous and defamatory” allegations.

Actor-singer Ali Zafar has registered a defamation suit in a district court docket here against performer Meesha Shafi, who accused him of intimate harassment two months ago on sociable media. The suit promises damages of Rs 1 billion.
Filed under the Defamation Ordinance 2002 on Sunday, Zafar has said in the observe that Shafi had triggered “tremendous accident” to his “reputation, goodwill, livelihood” through “false, slanderous and defamatory” allegations, corresponding to Geo Information.
The suit reads: “As the defamatory claims are patently false, it can only be figured this malicious marketing campaign has been launched from the plaintiff as part of a motivated conspiracy to tarnish the plaintiff’s good image through making wrong accusations.
“The accused has associated herself with the global #MeToo motion, with one of the launchers of the #MeToo motion Rose McGowan labeling the defendant as ‘a heroine for our times’.”

In the breakdown of the Rs 1 billion damages, the notice read: “Be that as it may, that because of the defamatory advertising campaign being spearheaded by the defendant, the plaintiff besides special damages in case there is defamation further experienced the following problems: Mental torture Rs 2 crore, Loss of associates Rs 8 crore, Lack of reputation/goodwill Rs 50 crore, Lack of business opportunities Rs 40 crore.”
Earlier, Shafi acquired confirmed she possessed received a legal notice dispatched by Zafar’s counsel, asking the singer-cum-actor to erase her tweet alleging harassment and issue an apology on Twitter, failing which he would record a Rs 1 billion defamation case against her.
It had been in Apr that Shafi had taken to Twitter to publicly accuse Zafar of bodily harassing her on “more than one occasion”.
Ali had refused the allegations, expressing he would take the matter through the courts of legislation.
