After 15 years, Shania Twain is back again with a brand-new one, “Life’s About to Get Good,” and it’s acquired an upbeat rhythm and catchy chorus like you’d expect from a huge Shania strike. The lyrics inform a different story, though.
With lines like “So long as love me so you stand right beside her. I couldn’t move on and I believe you were flattered,” and “It wiped out me that you’d give your life to be with her,” there is no uncertainty Twain is writing about her 2008 divide from former spouse and developer Mutt Lange.
Twain wrote the music herself. “It’s got a great deal of conflict, however in a perfect way for me and my point of view of computer, where it’s very true to my life and my history and my thinking at the time,” she said. “That initial lyric, ‘I wasn’t just destroyed, I got shattered.’ This just doesn’t get any worse in my head, emotionally. But the chorus is absolutely catchy, and there’s the irony of all these happy, cheerful voices in there.”
“Life’s About to Get Good” can be an sign of how profound Twain is inclined to go with her new music. She wrote every song on her new record, “Now,” by herself, so lovers will get to learn her much better than ever before when it’s released on Sept 29.
“I think it’s just a more complete picture of me as an artist,” Twain said of the record. “And there’s an extra element there that is deeper into … my personal tale, but it’s still the same songwriter, stylistically. I’d have to state the recording is very unique of one song to another, but it’s still very me. There is more fact that has enter into my songwriting.”
The assurance you hear in Twain’s voice is the merchandise of standing on her own with her residency in Las Vegas and the “Rock This Country Travel” that followed. Once she noticed her lovers were still with her, the performer felt prepared to make an recording without her musical partner, Lange.
She said, “I’m handling a lot of my very own issues with things as I go. It’s empowering me to deal with many of these problems and doubts. Moving on without Mutt was a huge change.”
Given that her new recording is completed, Twain is preparing to tackle almost anything that comes her way.
She adds, “I’m being more empowered than I ever have in my own very existence.”
