An official adaptation of Marathi strike Sairat, Dhadak is directed by Shashank Khaitan, who has aimed Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya and Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya – both starring Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan.
Sairat traced the storyline of two young adults fighting the rigid caste system for their love. Janhvi steps in to the shoes of Rinku Rajguru while Ishaan assumes the role essayed by Akash Thosar in Sairat.
Following the first truck for Dhadak premiered on June 11, it acquired mixed reactions. While many applauded the trailer, others experienced the caste viewpoint of the original has been watered down in Dhadak and believed there were unneeded Bollywood trappings in the Karan Johar development.
Dhadak represents the Bollywood debut of Ishaan who was simply earlier seen in Iranian auteur Majid Majidi’s Beyond the Clouds. This is Janhvi’s first film and can struck theatres on July 20.
